Form Friday: Back Dancing

Welcome to Form Fridays! Each week we will look at a new position, discuss the proper setup, and key points to remember when utilizing this position during the Karve method of barre (pronounced: bar) fitness. This week is Back Dancing with Deb.

The Setup

Start by laying flat on your back with your feet flat on the floor. Bring your arms down by your sides, then squeeze your seat to tuck your tailbone under lifting just your lower back off the floor. This is your starting position.

Things To Keep In Mind

Make sure you are not lifting your hips too high. You only want your lower back coming slightly off the floor.

Maintain a tight tuck and then squeeze your seat tighter within your initial contraction.

Keep your upper body as relaxed as possible. This position is all about your seat so make sure that’s the only thing working.

Consider closing your eyes to think more intensely about the movement.
